Ontario online casinos, explained

Ontario is the only province with an open, regulated online casino market. Here is how it works, and how to make sure you are on a registered site.

How the market works

Since April 4, 2022, private companies can offer online casino games, poker and sports betting in Ontario. Two bodies are involved:

  • The AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) registers operators and sets the standards they must follow.
  • iGaming Ontario contracts with each registered operator and conducts and manages the market on behalf of the province.

OLG.ca, the province's own site, operates alongside the private operators.

Check an operator in two minutes

  1. Look at the footerRegistered sites state that they operate under an agreement with iGaming Ontario.
  2. Search iGaming Ontario's operator listThe official site lists every registered operator and their websites.
  3. Match the web addressThe Ontario site often uses a separate domain, such as a “.ca” or an “on.” subdomain. A look-alike domain is not covered.
  4. Confirm geolocationA registered site will ask to confirm you are in Ontario before you play.

Geolocation

Registered sites must confirm you are physically in Ontario. On mobile they use your phone's location; on a computer they may ask for a small location plug-in. If you are near a border, or on a VPN, the check may fail. That is the system working, not a bug.

Bonuses and advertising

Ontario's standards limit how operators can advertise bonuses and inducements. You will see offers on the operator's own site or after you opt in to marketing, but not in general advertising. That is why this guide does not list bonus amounts for Ontario sites. Always read wagering terms before you opt in.

Protection tools

  • Deposit, wager, loss and time limits you control.
  • Reality checks during long sessions.
  • Cooling-off breaks and self-exclusion.
  • Clear terms and segregation of player funds.

Complaints

Start with the operator's support and its formal complaint process. If it is not resolved, you can escalate to iGaming Ontario, which handles unresolved player complaints about registered operators. Keep screenshots and transcripts.
